On June 27, 2026 the first 3.5 miles of the Gateway Trail Loop will be ready for hikers and bikers. Head to the corner of Helen Avenue and Doolin Canyon Road.
Since last October, the Ukiah Valley Trail Group have worked to create this part of the 22-mile Lookout Peak Trail network.
Wondering how much building a trail cost these days?
According to the group, the city of Ukiah spent $27,500, $25,000 of which was to meet requirements by the California Environmental Quality Act. The group itself contributed nearly $100,000 for biological survey and building the trail which also took over 700 volunteer-hours. A second trail loop is expected to be ready this time next year after additional work in the fall.
