Walking the Labyrinth

A few nights ago, I attended the Labyrinth event at Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver. I took the bus to get downtown. I didn’t feel like dealing with parking and wanted to walk.

Walking the labyrinth is a contemplative practice to walk to the centre of ourself.

This event was open to everyone and around twenty attended. A trio of musicians played music as each person took their turn under the church’s beautiful vaulted ceiling. The last time I walked a labyrinth was in New Orleans. I often sit and draw a labyrinth, walking it through the drawing itself, or moving through with my finger or focus. I do enjoy it immensely, letting go of my worries and concerns as I approach the centre. There, we can sit or stand, before making our way out again (bottom right photo).

I actually began that night’s journey when I stepped through the threshold of my front door. Each step down the hill to the bus stop, each moment on the bus, and each part of the stroll to the church – all of it was centering myself within myself.
